Palak Paneer

Palak Paneer (Spinach-Cottage Cheese) recipepalak paneer

Palak Paneer is a North Indian dish and very popular all over India. It goes well as an accompaniment with Roti, Naan, Paratha and can also go well with steamed rice. Palak Paneer is a type of saag and can also be identified as Cottage cheese dipped in a thick curry sauce, which is pureed form of Spinach.

Ingredients

Paneer (Cottage Cheese) – 200 grams (cut into small cubes)

Palak (Spinach) – 250 grams

Tomatoes – 2 (medium sized)

Onions (medium sized)- 2

Coriander Powder- 1 tablespoon

Garam Masala -1 teaspoon

Jeera Powder -1/2 teaspoon

Ginger Garlic paste – 1 teaspoon

Red Chilly Powder Р1  tea spoon

Green Chilli-1

Salt to taste

Oil – 2-3 table spoon

Coriander leaves -for garnishing

Method of preparation

Clean the spinach leaves & let it drain.Then chop the leaves & keep aside.

Put paneer cubes and salt in the hot water .After around 30 mts drain off the water. Now the paneer cubes are ready to be put in the curry.This is done to ensure that paneer cubes absorb some salt.

Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions & fry till golden brown.

Add Ginger garlic paste & fry till the raw smell goes off.

Add coriander powder, red chilli powder & jeera powder & fry for 2 mts in medium flame.

Now add finely chopped tomatoes & green chilli and fry for around 2 minutes.

Add the chopped spinach to this & cover the pan with a lid and cook on slow flame for about 5 mts.

Let the mixture cool. Grind it into a fine puree in a mixer.

Transfer the ground mixture to a pan & add enough water to make it into curry consistency.

When the mixture starts boiling, add the garam masala  and paneer cubes.

Cook for around 5 minutes.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Your yummy palak paneer is ready to be served with Rotis, Naan or Rice!!

Note:

You can also deep fry the paneer cubes before adding on to this.

Instead of paneer you can add cubed potatoes (cooked or half cooked & deep fried) and serve as Aloo Palak.
