How to make Hummushow to make hummus

Hummus in Arabic means ‘chickpeas’ and the major ingredient used in preparation of Hummus is Tahini.  In this recipe, we will also show you how to make Tahini, which is to be used in Hummus preparation.  Hummus is a very easy to make dish and is one of my favorites. It is widely used in Middle east countries especially Turkey, Israel, Lebanon etc.

Ingredients used

Chickpeas – About 400 grams (soaked overnight)

-          ¼ cup water in which chickpeas was soaked ( to be used in the preparation)

Tahini – 1 ½ tablespoon (method of preparation given below)

         How to prepare Tahini

         Ingredients used

           Sesame Seeds – 1 cup

Olive Oil – ¼th of a cup

           Salt to taste

Keep oven for preheating at 350 Fahrenheit. Now place Sesame seeds on a flat cooking pan, in an oven, for about 4 to 5 minutes.  Do not                allow sesame seeds to brown.  Now transfer these sesame seeds to a blender and add olive oil and salt to blend it into a smooth paste.

Lemon juice- 4 tablespoon

Garlic -2 cloves, crushed

Olive oil- 2 tablespoon

Salt to taste

Method of preparation

Drain the chickpeas and set aside 1/4 cup of the water in which chickpeas, was soaked.

Now put all the ingredients together in a food processor and blend it for about 6 to 7 minutes, until the entire mixture is smooth and blended well. Keep adding water (from the 1/4th cup of liquid set aside after removing the soaked chickpeas) until you get a very smooth consistency.

Transfer the entire content to a serving bowl and spread the olive oil evenly over the hummus. Now you can garnish it with parsley.

Your Hummus is now ready to be served along with bread of your choice.

Hummus can be preserved by keeping it in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. If kept in the freezer; Hummus can last for about a month. If Hummus appears to be dry, then add some olive oil to it.
