Keerai Masiyal (Seasoned Pureed Palak)

Palak Masiyal

Palak or Spinach is a highly nutritious iron-rich leafy vegetable which contains Antioxidants, vitamins -A, C, E, K,  Magnesium, folic Palak Masiyalacid and Omega -3 fatty acids. It is highly recommended for kids and expectant mothers.

It can be eaten fresh, steamed or cooked.

Foodsavory is presenting an easy to cook and highly nutritious dish with Palak which can be consumed as a side dish with rice or can be mixed with rice and eaten.

Keerai Masiyal (Seasoned Pureed Palak)


Fresh Palak – 1 bunch

Salt to taste

For Seasoning

Oil/ Ghee – 2 teaspoons

mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon

Urad dal – 1/2 teaspoon

Hing (asafoetida) powder – 1/4 teaspoon

curry leaves – a few

Red chillies – 1

Method of preparation

Wash the palak leaves in running water and allow the water to drain off. Put these palak leaves in a pan and close it with a lid and let it cook in simmer.

Once cooked, allow it to cool and puree it in a mixer.

Transfer the contents to a bowl. Add salt to taste.

For Seasoning

Heat oil/Ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, curry leaves and Hing powder. Allow the mustard seeds to crackle and transfer the seasoning to the palak puree.

The nutritious Palak dish is ready to be served with hot rice!
