Holi Specials – Sweet Gujiya with Khoya and dry fruits

Sweet Gujiyas

It is festive season and India is celebrating HOLI,the festival of colours, today. There are some delicacies which are unavoidable and Sweet Gujiyasthus must haves on the auspicious day of  HOLI. These include Sweet Gujiyas, Mathris, Bhaang, Thandai etc. These are North Indian delicacies and well relished by people all across India.

Foodsavory has great pleasure in introducing ‘Sweet Gujiyas’ to its followers.

 Sweet Gujiya


Maida (refined flour) – 500 grams

Grated Chikna Khoya (or Hariali Khoya) – 500 grams

cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Badam Chopped(Almonds ) – about 12 to 15 nos.

Kismish (Raisins) – 20-25 nos.

Grated coconut – 1 cup

Sugar to Taste

Ghee  or refined oil – For frying purpose

Method of Preparation

Knead Maida into a dough (of soft and tight consistency) with Ghee or oil (about 6 tablespoons).

Cover the dough with a moist cloth and allow it to rest for about 1/2 hour.

Mash Khoya and deep fry in ghee/ oil in a pan till it becomes light brown.

Add sugar, cardamom powder, chopped badam (Almonds), raisins, grated coconut to the pan and fry for 2 minutes along with the Khoya.

Make small lemon sized balls of the dough and roll it into small circles.

Fill these circles with the prepared khoya mixture, fold it into half and seal it. Twist the edges inwards.

Heat Ghee / oil in a pan and deep fry the Gujiyas on a medium flame till they turn golden brown.

Drain the excess oil or place the fried Gujiyas on a tissue paper to absorb excess oil.

Your awesome ‘Sweet Gujiyas’ are ready to be served!
