Coconut Chutney (with Fried Gram and Red Chillies)
This is a wonderful accompaniment with Idli and Dosa and is a typical South Indian Recipe.
Ingredients used:
Freshly Grated Coconut – 1 cup
Fried gram – 4 to 5 tea spoons
Red chillies (dry) – 3 to 4 (depending on spice level)
Shallots (peeled sambar Onion) – 4 to 5
Curry leaves – 5 to 6
Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil (Preferred coconut oil) – for seasoning
Method of Preparation
Soak the fried gram in water for about 30 minutes.
Grind together the grated coconut, fried gram and red chillies along with salt.
Once it is ground to a paste, add the Shallots and grind once.
Transfer the contents to a bowl.
Heat oil in a kadai, and season it with mustard seeds(allow it to crackle), curry leaves, and red chillies if necessary. Add this seasoning to the chutney.
Your awesome Coconut Chutney is ready to be had with Idli or Dosa. Some prefer having this as an accompaniment for Poori / chapathi etc.
