
Gojju is sweet, sour & spicy gravy and is a traditional kannadiga dish. Gojjus can be made with different types of vegetables like brinjal, bitter gourd etc. Pineapple gojju is a very popular dish served in South Karnataka weddings. Ingredients
Pineapple (chopped into small pieces) – 1 cup
Tamarind pulp -1/2 tsp
Jaggery – 1tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4tsp
Salt – To taste
Masala powder ingredients
Red chillies -2
Coriander seeds -1/2 tbsp
Chana daal – ½ tsp
Urad dal – ½ tsp
Fenugreek (Methi) seeds -1/4 tsp
Asafoetida (hing) – a small piece
Grated coconut -2tbsp
For seasoning
Oil- 1tsp
Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
Jeera -1/4tsp
Curry leaves – a few
Method of preparation:
Heat little oil in a kadai and fry red chillies, channa dal,urad dal, asafetida piece and grated coconut till you get a nice aroma.
Allow it to cool and powder it in a blender. Cook the pineapple pieces in water along with turmeric powder in a pressure cooker for one whistle till the pineapple pieces become soft.
Add tamarind pulp, jaggery and salt to the cooked pineapple and bring it to boil.
When it starts boiling add the ground Masala powder and cook on medium heat till a creamy consistency is obtained.
Heat oil in a kadai and season mustard seeds, Jeera and curry leaves and add the seasoning to the gojju and serve.
