Ugadi Pachadi

Ugadi is the festival which marks the beginning of a new year and is celebrated with festive fervor in the states of Karnataka and ugadi pachadiAndhra Pradesh. It welcomes the new beginning with nature is in full bloom, symbolizing regeneration and celebrating the season’s freshness.

Ugadi special menu includes Ugadi Pachadi, Mamidikaya Pulihora (Raw Mango Rice) , Mamidikaya Pappu (Mango Dal), Bottle gourd Kheer, Bobbatalu (obbattu) ,Obbattu saaru etc.

Ugadi Pachadi 

Ugadi pachadi is a unique flavored dish that epitomizes the spirit of Ugadi with sweet, sour, pungent and bitter tastes. This chutney is a symbolic reminder of the myriad facets of life- Happiness (jaggery), Sadness(bitter neem flowers, leaves), Anger( Chilli powder), Tamarind( Disgust) , Unripe mango( Surprise) and Salt( fear).


Raw mangoes – 1/2 cup (washed, dried and chopped into small pieces without peeling the skin)

Neem leaves and flowers – 1 tbsp (washed and pat dried)

Grated jaggery – ½ cup

Fresh and finely chopped coconut pieces – 1 tbsp

Tamarind paste -3 -4 tbsp

Red chilly powder –To taste

Salt -To taste

Method of preparation

Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl. Add a spoon of water in case the consistency is too thick.

Ugadi pachadi is ready to be served!!!
