There are numerous ways one can prepare Spinach rice. Foodsavory is pleased to present to you its version of Spinach Rice.


Rice- 1 cup

Spinach – 2 bunches (washed and chopped)

Tomatoes – 3 (finely cut)

Onions (small) – peeled about ½ cup

Green chillies – 3 (slit each into 2 pieces)

Green peas – 1/3 to ½ cup

Grated coconut – about 2 tablespoon

Red chillies – 6 to 7

Coriander seeds – 2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Bay leaf – 1

Cinnamon – 1 inch long

Oil – about 3 tablespoons (refined oil preferably)


Method of Preparation

Cook rice and allow it to cool.

Now cook green peas till it becomes soft.

Heat oil in a pan and fry spinach in a low flame with little water sprinkled on top of it. When it is properly cooked, remove it from the fire and allow it to cool.

Fry red chillies & coriander seeds in little oil. Grind it with coconut, cashew nut & cooked spinach (using minimal water).

Now heat the remaining oil in a broad pan and fry bay leaf, cloves and cinnamon.  Add green chillies and small onion and fry it for about 2 minutes.

Add tomatoes to it. When the moisture is evaporated completely, add the ground Masala (containing the spinach) and fry it till you get a good aroma.

Now add rice and salt to taste. Fry in high flame till rice is hot.

You can garnish it with fried cashew nuts (optional) and serve it with hot with raitha!
